I never expected to see one of my quilts on a tote bag, but this past weekend at the Stitches in Bloom show at The Oregon Garden two women came into our special exhibit with just that. My colleague, Jeri Oswalt, recognized the quilt on their show tote bags as one of mine. I was surprised, because when I signed the Featured Artist contract, it said “one of your pieces may be featured on a tote bag.” I never heard anything prior to the show and had forgotten about all it. Jeri was so enthusiastic, she suggested to the women I sign their bags. All I can say is I tried, but it’s hard to autograph canvas. Now I’m wondering if my work on a show tote bag will be the zenith of my fiber art career. If so–so be it!
Below are the three quilts in my Water Garden series hanging at the entrance to the quilt show. The quilt reproduced on the tote bag is the one on the far right entitled “Water Garden.” It was inspired by the Hughes Water Garden exhibit at The Oregon Garden.
