The day before judging the Umpqua Valley Quilters’ Guild show, we went to the Umpqua Valley Arts Center to view the latest High Fiber Diet (HFD) Exhibit entitled Heat Wave. HFD is a small group within the Columbia FiberArts Guild, of which I’m a member. HFD members seek out various regional venues for their themed exhibits.
Here are my two favorite wall hangings. Interesting to see this first one has two makers.
The repetition in this piece caught my eye, and I find the organic orange lines in contrast to the more rigid green bars and narrow red and black stripes a good counter balance.
The Arts Center had other exhibits, as well. The gallery featuring Joe Fedderson’s art and called “Cultural Abstractions” really held my interest. I loved this installation. Materials are glass and twine. The play of shadows and light add a lot to the piece. The detail shot really shows this effect well.
Fedderson works with other types of media. This is a relief and monoprint. I think it perfectly captures its rain theme.
This artwork is a monotype created wtih spray paint, collage and blind emboss.
