For the first full day at Road I attended a 6-hour grid class called Quilting on the Grid with Laurie Tigner. We quilted on Handi-Quilter machines, with most students having a machine all to themselves, which was great. Much more experimentation and practice, needless to say. Here are samples of some of the designs we learned and practiced both on the machine and with pencil and paper. We started with the “plaid” at the top, then moved onto other patterns.
Like most longarm quilting instructors, Laurie emphasized practicing the designs by drawing first and drawing many times.
Laurie has a stitched circular piece showing a myriad number of grid patterns. Here are just a few. Some you may have seen, and some may be new to you.
