Have you ever asked yourself, “How did the maker do that?” Twenty-one artists from the Oregon Region of Studio Art Quilt Associates answer that question in this book.
Artists submitted proposals and were chosen through a juried process. They had six months to complete their piece, documenting the steps through writing and photographs.
The strength of the book is the wide variety of processes, tools, materials, and art quilt styles. Materials and techniques ranged from upcycled fabrics, hand-dyeing and painting with Inktense brand pencils, fabric designed and printed on a home printer, stenciling, and even traditional piecing.
Each artist received six pages to share her process. Although the section headings may differ, the structure is essentially the same with an introduction to the artist, getting started, tools and techniques, problem solving, and final thoughts.
Readers may find the problem-solving section especially interesting. Many makers ran into unanticipated challenges as I did and explain how they overcame those challenges to reach completion.
I’m pleased to say I have a chapter in the book featuring my art quilt “Sheer Joy on Two Wheels”.
I and my fellow artists invite you read through our text and look through our photos to see what you can apply to your own work.
The book was released in 2022 and is available through Amazon with the softcover version available for $30.00 and the Kindle for $10.00.
