Last week I judged for the Umpqua Valley Quilters’ Guild along with Gerrie Thompson and Val Pellins, two quilters who attended my Two-Day Quilt Judging Seminar a couple years ago. They have been judging since. Here is our pick for Best of Show.
This is the second time in three years Doris has won best of show. The previous quilt was also a landscape. For this quilt, she began with the mountain, a quilt pattern by Violet Craft. The rest of the setting is her original work. Her color palette is surprising and stunning. Here are two detail shots to show her quilting designs.
The guild’s raffle quilt “Midnight Diamonds” reflects their theme. The pattern is by one of their members Cheryl Malkowski, who is well-known for her complex star patterns.
Umpqua Valley posted humorous signs urging show-goers to respect the non-touching policy similar to what I mentioned Clark County Quilters had done a couple weeks ago.
