Exciting news! Last Thursday I drove up to Everett, WA for the Preview Party for the International Quilt and Fiber Arts Festival and learned my hand embroidery titled “Summer Meadow” earned not only a first place but an Award of Excellence. All of the quilts and fiber arts were mixed together rather than hung by category. One of the museum volunteers assisted me in locating my piece. She explained she had been in the judging room when the piece was being evaluated and told me all of the wonderful things the judges said about it. Normally, entrants don’t learn what judges say, so that was lovely to hear. I also earned a second place in Pictorial for “Z is For Zinnia, C is For Cosmos.” Pretty great.
The not-so-great was the drive up. I may never drive up to Seattle or through that city again. Too much traffic that never moves. It took nearly five hours in spite of trying to time it right. I do have a restaurant tip: Terracotta Red. It’s Asian fusion and delicious.
