Last week I had the pleasure to judge for the Rogue Valley Piecemakers in Grants Pass for the second time. The guild had one of the most exciting challenges I have yet seen. Fifteen members made quilts inspired by the work of artist Charley Harper. For those not familiar with him, he is well known for his stylized wildlife prints, posters, greeting cards, and books. His artwork is graphic and oftentimes displays a sense of humor and whimsy. Members could use quilt patterns based on his prints or create their own original designs. Here is a quilt based on a Harper print.
The design below blew me away for its originality.
I also must share this rooster, an original conceived by Susan Tresner. How can you not love a chicken standing in a wading poor dressed in swim trunks?!
One evening we dined at Taprock Northwest Grill. The setting on the Rogue River is gorgeous and the food delicious. I highly recommend the restaurant should you be in southern Oregon. See for yourself.
